How we doing? Its only been 4 days since the last post so it unironically feels like im writing this the day after the last post, but I guess thats just how time works in vacations right?

Well, there’s a lot going on regardless. For one, my mom has been planning to come to leeds for a while now, and she finally got a ticket for this week to come see me, so thats neat. In all honesty its shaping up to shake the entire vacation, since she wants to see leeds, manchester, and london.

Im indifferent. In all honesty I’d probably stay in leeds for the duration of the vacation if it werent for her coming to see me, whether for time or money or both, but at the same time that isnt necessarily a good or a bad thing. It’d be a nice change of pace to see what’s up in other parts of the country, and its not like ill be held back from doing anything anyways.

AND I HAVE SOMEONE TO BE WITH THAT ISNT MY ROOMMATES.

The main dude I’ve been hanging out with since we met at uni isnt in leeds at the moment, so its mostly been me on my own for a while. Its fine, dont get me wrong (even better in a lot of ways, things were hectic when we had classes), but I would like to have more interactions with more people than JUST my roommates, in fact ESPECIALLY some roommates >>:/.

This could also run into the problem the other way around though, since she’ll be around a while and we’ll be sharing rooms 24/7, but its worth its weight. You kinda risk that with any extended hangout anyways, that you kinda swing to the other side of the pendulum and now you have too little personal space. Oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

You know something really cool about the whole ordeal as well though? Ill finally be getting a new laptop, a lenovo laptop my uncle gave as a gift back home >:).

FINALLY.

I mean, seriously, SERIOUSLY, ITS ABOUT TIME.

Ive been using apple laptops since Ive been USING laptops, and I havent ever owned a laptop that didnt have MacOS on it. First it was the intel mac, stuck with it for years even after the performance degraded and even replaced its fan, and now have been using an m2 mac for the past couple of years as well.

AND IVE HATED IT.

HATE. Hate isnt even a strong enough word for the genuine amount of vitriol that a still feel for MacOS, and the shitty company that is apple.

No hate to the people working there, or the engineers making the products, or anything like that, but MY GOD does this company SUCK. Their laptops are so fucking restricted unnecessarily, both in settings to ‘protect the user’ and the fact that basically nothing is properly compatible with it since its ARM and MacOS now, which a fucking abyssmal combo in terms of not being able to run ANY game that doesnt have strict mac support, not to mention a bunch of other apps that’d just be so much easier to use on linux.

Even the intel macbook felt restricted and snobbish in the same way though. The settings, layout of the desktop and all the extra unnecessary, often under the guise of ‘security’ even just for downloading shit online or doing basic tasks is just so dumb, and way less intuitive than windows. Stuff like not being able to use FLAC files but only ALAC files too, a negligibly easy thing that EVERY OTHER COMPUTER HAD that mac doesnt, since they want you to use THEIR file (snobs).

This holy ass philosophy, the way that they desing their shit, it bleeds into every part of the device, INCLUDING the hardware and trying to repair a new mac yourself. I feel it every time I use these laptops, or any apple product for a matter of fact given how dumb they all are, and im sick of it.

Then you got people defending it with the take ‘its good your just not using it right, OR you havent learned how to use it yet, OR EVEN its amazing when you know what your doing’

SURE. SUUUUUURE. IM NOT USING IT RIGHT.

Like an operating system that you can use without obnoxious unnecessary hurdles wasnt even part of the point in the first place, GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE.

This isnt even mentioning how closed the ecosystem is from other devices, or the repair issues and legislation.

Look, you probably know some of this already, and this is like my 4th time writing about it on this site I dont even have much new to say, but god does that not mean its not worth saying, especially now, because this is genuinely my last tie to this godforsaken TRILLION dollar disaster of a company and I am GLAD. EUPHORIC, EVEN. Whatever genuine good they were doing for tech left the room YEARS ago and im so happy to be done with this shitty ass company and their shitty ass products.

I CAN FINALLY USE AN ACTUAL LAPTOP. THANK YOU UNIVERSE, THANK YOU :’).

Even with the slight mention of windows though, and the fact that it’ll be pre-installed anyways, I’d still very much rather not use it either. Given how much windows has also been devolving, I’d probably still strip it of all the gunk and dual boot it with another OS but I’m PRAYING that I’ll be able to set up a nice linux distro and finally have that be my main OS moving forward. Not apple and their stupid ecosystem, not windows with the spyware and all the clutter of the 15 million different services lodged into windows that I’ll never lay a finger on.

JUST a good x86 ass fucking laptop with a functional and customizable linux distro. Just as the universe always wanted it to be.

The only real question now is what distro to get though. A while back when I was first installing asahi on this mac I probably wouldve said arch linux, since its SUPER customizable (which is awesome) and I’d get to build it from scratch to my liking, but do I really wanna bother with however long that might take?

Actually yes, YES, 100% YES. God im so SICK of windows and mac’s customization options, frankly im not at all ready to delve into arch linux cause of my time in macintosh purgatory but I DONT CARE, im a fucking computer science student I can do it IM DOING ARCH LINUX. And it’ll probably be fun :D.

Anywho, as of late ive been using the 3ds more often, and ive been finding it really fun! In particular I’ve gotten around to organizing the games and getting a couple more, but in all honesty it feels like I have very little understanding of the homebrew itself, so once I get the new laptop im gonna see what more I can do with my 3ds. Probably a lot. Especially for these posts since itll be easier to send 3ds pictures to the laptop >:).

In terms of games played, this week Ive been playing planet robobot and new super mario bros 2, both of which have been fun. Its a bit odd playing them, especially since theyre games Ive wanted to play since I had a wii u in middle school, but it makes it all the more fun to fulfill that dream, even if one of them is WAY better than the other.

Yea im not gonna beat around the bush, kirby CLEARS mario and its not even a competition. New super mario bros 2 is FINE, good even, but it doesnt light a candle to the wii u version, the mid air spin not being possible hurts me viscerally every time I try to pull it off cuz its an ESSENTIAL part of the wii u game, but I just CANT DO IT here, WHAT DO YOU MEAN I CANT SLOW DOWN MY FALL >:/.

That, and the levels are fine, but the SECRETS tick me off. The wii u game probably also had this issue but regardless, where some secrets (whether its secret level entrances or just the 3 collectable coins per level) are reasonable finds, like exploring an extra section of the level via a pipe or a challenging segment that requires some effort, tell me why other secrets are total BULLSHIT.

Sometimes the game will just straight up require you to be mini mario, so having to get a mini mushroom outside the level itself, which is a tad annoying but passible, and other times the secret is straight up just an invisible vine block. You have to hit it not knowing where it is so it takes you to a different area, like WHAT o_o.

ARE WE SERIOUS.

Most of the secret level entrances straight up need you to check a guide to find them, cuz the entrances themselves could also be in any level of each world, AND MOST OF THEM ARE STUPID. Like the smallest corner of some random water area where you ALSO need to get a mini shroom from outside the level.

Its annoying, ESPECIALLY because to get the extra star levels at the end of the game, you need more collectable coins than are provided in the base game, so you then need to find one of the two dumb as hell secret entrances and have the take you to the secret world so you can have enough coins to go.

Again, in theory I really dont mind this, but its like the devs sort of abuse your trust with many of your secrets. 70 to like 83% of the secrets are totally fine to find on your own, but that last bit genuinely irks me.

Then you have kirby.

Hes perfect :’).

Seriously though, I love him so much, and his games are lovely too. Planet robobot is such a treat, the robots you can ride and their powerups are really fun, and the art is gorgeous.

Same for triple deluxe, reminds me of return to dream island on the wii, but with a WAY cooler (nearly) final boss.

Looking at it from the top down, both for kirby and for the pokemon games and cooking mama and A LOT of franchises honestly, I am yet to play as many of the titles as I should (even given return to dreamland, kirbys epic yarn and a couple of the older titles), but I do plan on it I WILL.

Again, I will probably get around to it once I get the new laptop, itll be easier to download the games on there rather than the 3ds and the emulation and sorting all the games all nice and neat and setting up the and customizing the 3ds themes is a bit of an ask, BUT IT WILL COME. IT MUST >:).

Or honestly, fuck it, Ill see what I can do after this post is published. Been waiting too long to do it honestly. Plus it doesnt really matter, even if I do end up doing it on the other laptop if I can do a little bit of stuff on the mac first then why not, itll get reset and thrown IN A TRASH DISPENSER anyways.

Anyways, that’s all for now. I did end up finishing the last volume for scott pilgrim, volume 6, this week (and I LOVED it), but ill probably keep that brewing till im done with the movie. That, and daft punk’s random access memories album, havent gotten the chance to get past track 4 yet but im enjoying it so far. Not what I had in mind, very groovy, but I like it :).

I hope the read was fun, though honestly it didnt feel like I had much to say this time around. I will leave you with one more thing though ;).

I finished a jigsaw piece a while back and im not sure if I got to talk about it on here yet (I genuinely might be going crazy cuz I dont think I did but I SHOULD HAVE) and if your reading this then it should be the cover for this post.

It took a days worth of work (and not going to classes) and the colors were off, but it was WORTH IT, and since then ive flattened it on some books cuz it was concave for some reason.

You’ll notice there’s also two jigsaw pieces missing, its meant to be where the handle could go, which annoyingly is a different color than the place its in for both positions, for SOME REASON >:/, but I dont really mind honestly.

It took a lot of work, so gaze at it in all its kirby glory!
