Ahem.
So, about costco — WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH THEM???
As a quick refresher, as part of joining the book club and getting a daily pass, I promised last week that Id try going to costco. In my mind, costco was just a company that does warehouses with big products at a low price, and with how much people online (northernlion) raves on about it, I was curious to check it out.
But you need TO HAVE A MEMBERSHIP TO ENTER, HELLO??????????
Immediately im disapointed, BUT FINE. Lets say I DID pay the 40-ish pounds just to step FOOT in the warehouse, surely the pri—
Nah, you cant actually enter yet, you have to have one of the specific jobs that costco wasnts you to have in the UK as well to even get an in store membership.

Well then, lovely :D.
WHY, WHYYYYYYYYYYYY????????
IT DOESNT MAKE ANY SENSE.
Ive genuinely never known of a company so up their own asses that they have job eligibility criteria ON TOP OF a high membership fee just to shop there, what would the reasoning for this even be? To purposefully reduce customers????
Why???????
Okay, SURE, SUUUUUUURE. Lets play along, one last time.
Lets say, just to get a point across, that by some miracle I DO have one of these government jobs, OR I buy their online only membership, so I can only order stuff from the warehouse instead of go (remember my wednesday plans already shattered into a gazillion pieces 250 words and 6 days ago the day of me being informed on this).
Do you want to know the best part of that, if I even did go despite this? I went through the trouble of looking at their prices and its just SLIGHTLY DISCOUNTED EXPENSIVE BRANDS.
WHAT. WHAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTT.
WHAT. THE FUCK >:0.
I was under the impression that costco was cheap, ESPECIALLY given this extra criteria. The ONLY way you could justify all the previous bullshit AT ALL is if this somehow matched or was cheaper than an aldi or lidl, or had enough else to justify it from a grocery perspective, BUT IT DOESNT.
Their whole thing is bulk products, right? You want a soap, buy 4 at a discount. Kinder chocolate bars? Buy 50 for cheap.
But the problem arises when you notice whos GETTING the discounts, ITS ALREADY EXPENSIVE STUFF. Take weetabix as an example, overpriced wheat bisuits that are like 3 times the price of aldi wheat bisks (because it should be CHEAP). All costco does is look at that and say
“We’ll give you 5 packs of them for a pound or two cheaper”
But it STILL isnt even CLOSE to what would in any universe be a reasonable price. Weetabix is already expensive, discounting expensive DOESNT MAKE IT CHEAP.
And the cherry on top?
They dont even sell poptarts :’I.
But genuinely, costco is the epitome of what an upper-middle class person would consider “saving on groceries” dont even test me with that bullshit, its genuinely worse than marks and spencers, at least they invest somewhat back into the products they sell you and dont just shit branded products in bulk >:(.
So yea, costco wednesday in fact didnt happen, and we (YES WE) hate costco now. How’s your week been?
Mine was pretty alright, tapered off near friday (I was genuinely so tired after this one awkward conversation on thursday that haunted me for the next two days you dont even KNOW) but I still enjoyed myself quite a lot.
Let’s start with another negative, though I say that more with the burning to desire in my heart to yap and less to do with it actually being that serious —
Capybara ball died.
HE DIED DAMMIT.
It was so weird, I was literally just fidgeting in a tutor class (as I usually do), and decided to start twisting him.
In hindight, BIG mistake, not even 10 minutes after I started this my hand was covered in goop, I had to excuse myself and throw him in the trash.
Addmittedly, I do just have another one lying around, but the walk home was 20% less fiedgety, I had toss my phone around to keep my hands occupied.
This, funnily enough, ALSO bit me in the ass, I dropped it a couple of days later and now it has an even bigger crack than it already did, but frankly I dont care at all, im more than accepting of its fate. Its an old phone (samsung note 10+), and ive had it for like 4 years now, Id be more than happy for it to snap in two and just buy a new phone already.
Might cost a bit but nothing my current savings cant fix im sure >:). Plus, I’d buy it used, and things’d all be peachy, sweet and hunky dory.
I hope.
….
…….
On second thought, let’s just hope that doesnt happen. Or at the very least, ill find somewhere to store all my phone’s data beforehand, then it can die a glorious death by 1000 tiny shattered glass pieces :3.
Anygloop, how about some book talk?
Like I said b4, I’m part of the book club now, though it’ll only really be till the year ends (for whatever reason I thought the membership would be a WHOLE year, silly me :v).
I didnt get an email or anything, they dont even really have socials other than instagram and facebook, but they DO have their schedule on there, and I found out as soon as I missed an event :p.
It wasnt the book discussion thankfully, that’s this week (they do a book discussion every two weeks, after all). The book for discussion this week is Kim Jiyoung, born 1982, a story about a woman and the discrimination she faces in korea. Its a big deal apparently, its won awards and even has a film!
Seems fun, though I havent read much since I just got it and read the first few pages today, up untill her husband gets her therapy sessions (dumbass husband btw im calling it now, man cant communicate to save his life).
Im pretty excited to see it through, especially given the format. Now that we got to the therapy bit, it seems we’re gonna go through Jiyoung’s life story, and that’ll probably make more sense of everything we’ve seen up till now. Ill let you all know how that goes next week, and with the book discussion, assuming I can finish it in time.
There’s also butchers crossing, the western fiction I accidentally called non-fiction last time, and thats going about the same. So far, the main character has:
- Talked to and gotten help from mcdonald, and rejected that mf TWICE (thank goodness)
- Got this new guy to agree to an expedition the dude wanted to do for a while to hunt buffalo, giving him a way to explore the country
- Went out on a walk with a nice lady.
Expedition guy went to get the stuff theyd need to do the expedition, and got back at around the point I reached. Pretty neat.
Something I wasnt expecting personally though is how captivated I would be, not in some big way but I am really enjoying the story so far. Stuff like the conversation in agreeing on the expedition, and all the stuff the main character was doing beforehand, all the dawdling before going on the expedition and the arrival to the city, as well as just the FIRE in this man’s heart to explore the country was all oddly captivating, I enjoyed reading it.
The best of it so far I’d say is definitely the main characters envelopment into his surroundings, into the space around him. Whenever he’s alone and enjoying him self he often describes it as a transcendant experience, its practically otherwordly.
One moment stands out the most, “I am a transparent eyeball. I am nothing, I see all”. He continues to elaborate of course, how in tune he is with the world around him.
ITS AWESOME, and it reminds me a lot of what I said in the night wander post, funnily enough. I love it <3.
Its kinda making me see the appeal in westerns too. Crazy stuff :0.
So yea, that’s about all I’ve got for now, the rest of my is still in the oven. I STILL havent gotten around to finishing a temporex album, and I DID listen to some of the black parade for the first time, but not all. I do plan on getting around to it though, expect some more music talk next week.
Mostly though, I gotta go study, and study HARD. Im getting some research into numerical analysis done at the moment so I can discuss it with the project director for one of the internships I applied for (that Ill hopefully get, fingers crossed). They all get the approval/disapproval based on my cv next week, so gotta do what I can now (and even after approval, cuz then theres an interview).
Also, managing this alongside mainline courses and weekly tasks is TOUGH, im currently also having to catch up to a module (architecture) and I KNOW im gonna need to do much more work to get to a first honors degree, so that’s in play at the moment. This week will probably be the most of it though, just catching up and revising topics so the next couple of weeks are more low maintenance. We get a month off soon too which’ll be lovely for study.
For now though, I leave you with just one more thing:
https://youtu.be/rURVfYOkfZk?si=xf2MXk4VpnWI5rQg
Daryl talks games made a new video!
ITS AWESOME >:).
I finished it in the morning while getting some chores done and I loved it, I think you should check it out if youve made it this far and have the time. Its about our propensity to like unlikable people, mostly fictional, and the line between forgiveness and permanant disgrace.
It also reminded me that I never got around to writing about the chainsaw man movie :p. Unironically, its still been on the brain for a while, but I totally forgot that I wanted to write about it in depth, and still do.
Main reason probably has to do with why though, cuz after sitting on it more I’ve realised that im basically never gonna write it down here. I probably WILL write about it, but Id rather burn in every possible version of hell created by humankind than have even a single stranger read my thoughts on the movie and what it spurred in me, nor do I have the right verbiage and prose to do it justice.
In other words, ITS PERSONAL AND WILL BE PRIVATE >.>
Let it be known though that even all these months later, its still one of my favorite movies ever, I’d even go as far as to say it IS just my favorite movie ever. I haven’t watched much, dont get me wrong, but it just struck a chord with me in a way that only fujimoto ever has.
He writes very compelling characters, to say the least :).
All right, that’s all for now. Enjoy your week, im off to go have lunch and study, wish me luck.
Love you all, bye now <3.
