Zip.
Hi again! Another week again, and further into the trenches of a new semester, as per usual. Not much has happened in that regard tbh, a bit of difficulty learning to write in hack but programming and math are going quite well so far. All is good in the world of education.
HOWEVER, there are other things to take care of, adult things. For one, I’m writing a cv, and hoping to land a summer internship for one of the 4 opportunities I have available. 3 include programming, 2 in C and 1 in python, one’s big on data science and web app development. Addmitedly, that last one is a bit more vague in its requirements compared to the other three on the listing, but they all seem like reasonable asks I could handle, so we’ll see if I can write a good enough cv and statement to convince them of that.
Second, IM WRITING A CV :0!
Its not just for internships, I could use it to get jobs too. IM GONNA WORK SOON.
Huh. I dont know how to feel about that. Good? Bad?
Its hard to say honestly, especially because often, paradoxically, work can work to make me less exhausted, not more, especially if its not a crazy amount.
Its kinda like getting roommates in a way. Theyre totally gonna be a new factor, and it’ll take work to keep things in check, but that really entirely depends on the person (job) themselves. We’ll just have to see how that goes.
Additionally, the advisors I asked about making a cv kept mentioning how useful it’d be to join a society, so that’s a really enticing idea at the moment.
One issue though, what society????
I’ve been reading that damn list of societies since I was in foundation year, but even NOW AS I WROTE THAT LAST SENTENCE checking the sheer amount of societies gives me such pause.
THERES SO MANY.
I could do art society, that’d be fun, or english society, a sort of extension of all the english classes I’ve taken in the past, you know? Meetups about poetry, literature and the like, and seemingly also creative writing, which im yet to try.
But if im gonna READ then theres also the book society. Or how about the album review society, given that’s what im into recently? Computing society, and practice programming, perchance?
SNOOKER SOCIETY?????
I DONT KNOW MAN >://.
It feels so final, I dont want to get it wrong. What if I meet the coolest people by choosing one, and if I dont I choose another one and just get bored, not by the fault of anyone there but moreso that I just chose wrong for myself?
Its not that serious, honestly I could just leave if I don’t like it and try another one, so it’s more akin to trial and error than just a one and done decision, BUT STILL >:/.
I’ll figure it out soon, ideally by next week so I can talk about it :p, but for today i’ll just dawdle on the thought.
Actually, wanna know something I DONT have problems deciding on?
MILKSHAKES.
I’ve noticed recently that milkshakes are unironically quite a big cornerstone of what has been a years long tradition of mine, that being to drink a milkshake after hours with some music on. I get this odd skittles flavored milkshake recently, and it was really good! Then I went back yesterday for kinder bueno, and that was equally tasty :v.
Reminded me of the milkshakes I’d get in riyadh, when I used to wander outside the compound, and even before that! If you trace it back, I’ve been doing it since I started going to the gym in around the 9th grade, which is kinda crazy if you ask me. I ended up learning a lot since then, but wandering around, ideally with a milkshake, just never went away, and now I’d more than consider it a permanent part of the ethos.
Neat :).
Also had me thinking of aesthetics, mainly because of the night wandering itself, but also because of psychopomp. I played it MONTHS ago, but it still lingers in my mind, it’s aesthetic was just so captivating you know?
Same goes for the night wander. It doesn’t even particularly matter the place, though it certainly shapes the experience, as long as there isnt anyone around, it’s always the same surreal exploration of space, like a cat scowering new terrain.
Also, as of late I’ve been really taken a liking to brutalism, the architectural style, and since it’s also considered an aesthetic by many, I like to imagine the two together. Climbing rows of funnily shaped stairs, surrounded by pure concrete, after hours.
And you know what would really complete the picture, personalize that kind of space, at least for me? Electronics.
Hear me out.
Brutalism and brutalist buildings are cool, and it’s probably even cooler after hours, but it needs more, right? Throw in some Displays, circuitboards and wires everywhere, maybe even just random gadgets and handhelds and I genuinely think I would never leave.
ID LOVE THAT <3.
I dunno, it’s a vague description addmitedly, but in my mind it’d make for a really cool place. Maybe you’d go all in on the tech, to a maybe scary extent, or maximise the space with cool knick knacks, though at this point im not really describing just a place I’d visit right?
THIS’D BE A REALLY COOL ROOM >:).
Just saying. Any designers reading this, take notes :p.
So yea, aesthetics are cool, and I wonder what suits my tastes. I think the brutalist after hours mish mash is a neat idea, but it really is just a mish mash floating around in my brain, so it’s pretty hard to visualize even for me, I mean I hardly have all it’s different iterations in mind! Maybe you could do a place with all these aesthetics in orange lighting since orange is my favorite, maybe blue, maybe northern light-esque, idk.
This shits fun to think about though.
Anyways, that’s all I’ve got to share for now. I havent gotten around to lain yet but ill try to watch some this week. Though, if your curious for another fun piece of art, how about a comic I found recently?
https://politeandgood.com/comic/1
It follows a girl who showed up in whitespace, and her odd, what seems to be creator. I snippet of it blew up on youtube and I thought I’d check it out, and I’ve been liking it so far. I havent gotten to the bit I saw on youtube, but so far it’s already laid the groundwork for a lot of interesting questions. Like, why is her creator keeping her in whitespace, and what kinda parallels are there to take from it? It feels quite similar to an overprotective parent honestly.
Check it out if you have the time and might be into it. Anyways, I gotta get back to writing the cv, wish me luck :).
See you next week.
