Huh.

Hi. It feels odd having been gone for so long. I both feel like it’s been a month since the last post, and simultaneously like no amount of time has passed at all. Partly since sitting on this new desk gives me a sort of familiar feeling.

Well, I should start by just saying that I appreciate your patience, thanks reader. Admittedly, most people just binge read my site’s posts so no time will have actually passed between posts for them but STILL, worth mentioning for the sake of clarity and anyone who does read weekly.

Besides, I did actually manage to get quite a lot done in the week away from posts. Mostly, I finished the architecture assignment that’s been holding me back from doing the rest of my assignments. It was a incrementing 7 segment display from 1 – 9 and A – f, and after finishing it, all the other assignments started to fall too.

If your wondering what that is by the way, the 7 segment display, think of digital alarm clocks, you know how they arent really “drawn numbers” per se, but just a bunch of lines that turn on or off depending on what the time is?

I programmed one of those, drawing and implementing the math into code that would make each line light up depending on circumstance using boolean algebra, and writing it in an hdl file.

It was fun, but EXHAUSTING, and sort of threw me off of the next day since I didnt sleep as early as I wanted to over it, but I bounced out of the slump regardless and got 2 math assignments done the same day, and while I didnt do anything for the next two days (had to do groceries + called my family a lot) I did end up finishing the last math assignment and a tough(er) programming assignment today.

WE’RE PROGRESSING >:).

I know it sounds like we’re a bit behind, but even given the circumstances (5 days left till a full submission of all module work) we really arent doing as bad as you’d think. It really was just the 7 segment display holding me back from finishing the rest of these, now that thats out of the way everything is dropping quite quickly.

I mean, we got ALL of math out of the way. THANK GOODNESS.

Either way, things are gonna get done, and im glad to do them. Wish me luck with those assignments.

Anyways, enough university work for now, i’m quite tired of it at the moment given I JUST finished some. You know whats really got me riled up recently?

A new femtanyl single n_n.

I always love it when we get a new single, they drop out of nowhere and are fucking AWESOME, each and every time.

I recall from a podcast a while back that noelle, now part of the BAND that is femtanyl (still crazy that its a band now thats so cool) mentioned that she still didnt think that femtanyl had a distinct sound yet, which is fair, after all there had only really been a couple of singles and two EP’s so far, many of the singles IN said EP’s. She’s totally right, especially given all the directions she’s been going in x).

Though honestly, it HAS felt like her music’s been going in a certain direction. After having thought about it, I think there’s three distinct parts to her and the bands music as Femtanyl, though admittedly is so fucking good that it feels disingenuous to even label it in any way in the first place.

You’ve got the more hyper and playful tracks, think DINNER! and PUSH UR T3MPRR, these ones are personally some of my favorite and I really fucking love them. They’re a sort of constant hyper-stimulation thats fucking addictive, like a never ending sugar high.

You’ve got the more metal tracks, really fucking nasty, like GIRL HELL 1999 and DOGMATICA, ear grating but cathartic as hell.

And you’ve got the tracks that have a heavy emphasis on particular atmospheres. These ones go for a sort of otherworldly feel, and in their own ways. Think AND IM GONE, WEIGHTLESS, and A LOT of the more recent tracks.

Of course, all the tracks mentioned above have their respective parts in varying degrees, none are 100% on any part that makes femtanyl FEMTANYL, but they all make up some amount of the big picture, and its all really cool imo.

Originally, back when CHASER had come out (and before the podcast), I feel like things were far more hyperactive, but as of late they’ve been hitting a much more even mix of all three, with a bit more emphasis on atmosphere — while still keeping the playfulness that makes the music so good in the first place. I think the shift is most apparent with ITS TIME, ATTACKING VERTICAL and LOTTERY, and of course, the new single.

This is of course ignoring 2 or 3 tracks that are WAY more crazy, im by no means saying that THIS is the direction that things are going in definitively or anything, there’s still a LOT of experimentation and all sorts of tracks, but it definitely does feel like femtanyl’s sound has been evolving as time goes on, and it’s really fascinating to see play out in real time.

A lot of people have also compared the newest single to machine girl — which is totally valid, the track genuinely does remind me of machine girl, but with a flare that could only come from noelle and juno. ITS JUST SO GOOD >:0.

I guess my point is, I see a slight shift in the music that’s been put out, and I like it. When ITS TIME and ATTACKING VERTICAL came out together on the same day, I genuinely couldnt stop listening to them for the ENTIRE MONTH. I STILL LISTEN TO THEM ALL THE TIME.

That atmosphere, sort of different from WEIGHTLESS and AND IM GONE in that it was a sort of more “retro?” (whatever the word even means anymore). The sounds for the new tracks just hit REALLY fucking good, and I love it.

Im excited for more, and I hope noelle and juno have an awesome time making the music <3.

O AND BTW, I didnt comment on the music video itself BUT IT WAS SO GOOD TOO, the leafy vermin is genuinely sick. Reminds me of Inscryption Leshy.
